La temporada 2023 de Fórmula 1 no podría arrancar mejor para Red Bull Racing: Triunfo de Max Verstappen y segundo puesto de Sergio Checo Pérez en el Gran Premio de Bahréin. El RB19 demostró ser muy superior sobre el resto y también mostró que Fernando Alonso dará pelea con Aston Martin.
El asturiano comenzó su temporada número 20 en la F1 con un sólido tercer lugar, dando una batalla y ganando un mano a mano a Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) y Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) para arrebatarles su lugar y acompañar a los Red Bull en el festejo.
"Fue un inicio de ensueño. Es lo que esperábamos, es un gran inicio para el equipo, estar en esta posición, ver a todo el equipo en la valla, disfrutar el 1-2 y lo más importante es que tuvimos el mejor auto a la final de la carrera", explicó Pérez.

El mexicano de Red Bull tuvo un mal inicio en Sakhir: cubrió la salida de su compañero, Max Verstappen, pero perdió la segunda posición con Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), pero la recuperó diez giros después cuando los equipos comenzaron a detenerse para el primer cambio de neumáticos.
A partir del giro 25, Verstappen y Pérez tuvieron un paseo en la pista. Los dos Red Bull comenzaron a sacar ventaja al resto y fueron inalcanzables hasta el final de la carrera.

Con la carrera controlada por los RBR, la batalla por el tercer lugar se centró en Leclerc, Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) y Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), quienes comenzaron a cortar distancias entre todos, donde el español superó al británico y subía al quinto sitio.
Lo que parecía una carrera tranquila para Leclerc se arruinó en la vuelta 41 cuando la Ferrari tuvo una falla de motor y abandonó cuando ocupaba la última posición del podio, lo que generó un Virtual Safety Car, que subió a Sainz al tercer puesto, pero con Alonso y Hamilton muy de cerca.

A 12 vueltas del final, Alonso le arrebató el tercer puesto a Sainz, quien sufrió, pero mantuvo el cuarto sitio sobre Hamilton. El siete veces campeón fue quinto, seguido por Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), George Russell (Mercedes), Valteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo), Pierre Gasly (Alpine) y Alex Albon (Williams) cerraron el top 10.
La próxima parada de la Fórmula 1 será el Gran Premio de Arabia Saudita, a celebrarse del 17 al 19 de marzo en el circuito de Jeddah.
